Privacy Policy
Who we are
Family Support (“we”, “us”, “our”) provides document preparation and litigant-in-person support for people navigating family court. We are not a firm of solicitors and do not provide legal advice or legal representation.
We are registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), registration number: ICO:00015578271.
If you have any question about how we handle your data, contact us at contact@family-support.co.uk.
The information we collect
We collect information you give us directly, including:
- Your name, email address and phone number, when you contact us or book a call
- Details you share about your situation, when you choose to tell us
- Information you provide during a consultation or while we prepare your documents, including financial, family or personal circumstances relevant to your case
We do not collect sensitive information through our website contact form — we only ask for enough to arrange a conversation. Anything more detailed is shared directly with us, by you, once we’re working together.
How we use your information
We use your information to:
- Respond to your enquiry and arrange a consultation
- Prepare the documents and support you’ve asked us for
- Communicate with you about your case
- Meet our own legal and accounting obligations
We do not use your information for marketing without your clear consent, and we never sell your data to anyone.
Our lawful basis for processing
We rely on the following lawful bases under UK GDPR:
- Consent — when you contact us or book a call
- Contract — to provide the services you’ve engaged us for
- Legitimate interests — to respond to enquiries and run our business responsibly
- Legal obligation — where we must keep records for accounting or regulatory reasons
Who we share your information with
We do not share your information with third parties for their own marketing purposes. We may share information with:
- A barrister, if you ask us to help you find one for advocacy
- Service providers who help us run our business (for example, our booking or email software), who are bound to keep your data secure and confidential
- Authorities, if we are legally required to disclose information
How long we keep your information
We keep enquiry information only as long as needed to respond to you. For clients, we keep case-related records for as long as required for our professional and accounting obligations, typically no longer than six years, after which it is securely deleted.
How we protect your information
We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to keep your information secure, including restricting access to those who need it to help you.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:
- Ask what information we hold about you
- Ask us to correct inaccurate information
- Ask us to delete your information, where appropriate
- Object to how we use your information
- Complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk) if you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at contact@family-support.co.uk.
